BACKGROUND NOTE
Exhibit design
and installation art
as media for recreating environments that narrated compelling stories,
form the perfect platform to re-interpret and orchestrate
the art of story telling, with the freedom to choose from
a palette of creative media. They reveal the power and potential
of visual design to communicate tangible information as well as
intangible ideas and concepts to large audiences. At the same time,
they prompt a new consciousness towards an inherent unity underlying
the broad spectrum of creative media.
I founded the design-build firm Design-Aid-India
in 1997, in order to extend my experience as well as desire to explore
this field in depth. The projects undertaken in the following years
were a direct result of an inspired design partnership with Aniruddh
Mukerji and Amit Saxena as well as proactive collaboration
with a talented group of vendors and highly skilled workmen.
Each
project undertaken in the course of the following years was an experiment
in incorporating and exploring a new medium of visual expression,
whether it is sculpture, graphic design, tensile
structures or digital art, in order to effectively document
and narrate a story. The stories ranged from tracing a State’s
current successes to its historical beginnings, to reconstructing
the glorious past of the popular game of Cricket. From theme based
exhibitions to product launches for the corporate sector, each project
brought with it, new insights into the art of effective story telling
through visual communication.
